Back with the Preview after a watered down tipping service last week which managed to pick out Deacon Blues and Libbrano at good prices.
This week sees the return of top class chasing with a Group 2 race at Aintree featuring the classy Master Minded and the game old veteran Albertas Run.
2:00 Doncaster – 5 Furlongs Class 2.
Starting us off today is a 5 furlong sprint which looks competitive. Confessional has won 2 from 28 runs so far and was only 1 length away in class 1 race and was close in a class 2 before that, he has more of an each way chance in this one. Marine Commando has won 3 from 11 and has speed, a class 2 winner last time with improvement likely he has a certain chance here. Excel Bolt is very lightly raced, having only 4 runs and winning 2 of these, his only race this year resulted in a terrible performance and he needs to improve greatly. Barney McGrew is a game old horse, with 5 wins from 49 runs and is dropping in the weights, a Group 3 winner 18 months ago he needs to improve but has the ability. Secret Witness has won 2 and been placed another 11 times from 30 runs and is a course and distance winner. He is never far away from the winning group and has a big chance if blazing a trail early on.
BKG’S Pick -(8) Secret Witness (Each Way)
2:15 Newbury – 7 Furlongs Group 3
Nawwar has won 1 from 2 so far with that being a class 2 win against 16 other runners and with improvement sure he has a chance here. Tell Dad has won 2 from 9 so far and was 1 length away in a class 2 last time, he won in that class the race before that and has obvious claims dropping in the weights. Saigon is a solid big horse who has 2 wins from 5 so far and was only 1 1/2 lengths away in a competitive Group 1 last time and was only 3/4 lengths away from a very classy improver the time before that and he has major claims here. Producer is a progressive sort who has fired off 3 in a row at Epsom for Richard Fahey, if he improves again he can get involved. Red Art is upped in trip here, he has 2 from 6 so far however is not guaranteed to quite get the 7 furlongs.
BKG’S Pick – (12) Saigon (WIN)
2:30 Doncaster – 6 Furlongs Class 1
Frankie Dettori’s mount in this one is an interesting horse, named after the legend Ballesteros this one has racked up 3 in a row in a class 5, class 4 and class 3 sequence and has shown himself to be progressive, although he may fall short dont completely rule him out. Son Du Silence has won 2 from 7 and a class 1 3 1/2 length loss last time does not give you overall confidence for this race. Miss Lahar has been running in Group company and seems to be well bred, dont take her record of 1 win from 10 at face value, she has the ability to take this one. West Leake Diman has won 2 from 5 and seems a solid horse, a good Group 1 performance last time out sets him up nicely for this one.
BKG’S Pick – (11) Miss Lahar (WIN)
2:45 Newbury – 1 Mile 4 Furlongs Group 3
A competitive Group 3 now with some very impressive young horses. French Navy has impressed so far this term and a record of 5 wins from 7 is very good, a Group 3 winner this term already and if ignoring the poor Group 2 performance last time out he has a major chance. Barbican has won 4 from 7 including 3 in a row and a sequence of class 3, class 2 then class 1 wins is impressive and with sure improvement he is one to keep an eye on. Al Kazeem has 2 from 6 and had a good Group 3 2nd performance last time, he is a course winner however stamina is a doubt. Beaten Up has 2 from 2 and on a class 3 last time impressively winning by a clear 4 lengths and with more to come is one to watch. Mohedian Lady has 3 from 7 and has Kieron Fallon on board today, a good class 1 win last time and with no stamina doubts he is another to look at in what is an ultra competitive race.
BKG’S Pick – (6) Barbican (WIN)
3:00 Doncaster – 1 Mile Group 1
Now the Group 1 race for the day and a competitive if light field. Camelot for Aidan O’brien is a very well thought of horse and had a solid maiden win at Leopordsdown and with improver a certainty he comes into the equation however at a surely short price he is no certainty. Enkle has won 1 from 2 so far and the stable is in good form, an impressive 4 length class 4 win last time puts him in the frame. Talwar has 3 from 6 including a Group 3 win in August however was below par last time out. 1 mile not sure to suit either. Fencing has a good E/W chance here after a cosy 2 1/2 length win last time.
BKG’S Pick – (3) Fencing (Win) (Early Odds 11/4 Bet365, 5/2 William Hill, 9/4 Boylesports, 37/13 Betfair)
3:15 Newbury – 7 Furlong Class 1
Pimpernel has a 50% strike rate so far with 3 from 6 and was 2nd in a solid Group 2 last time out and with a class 2 win before that he has a certain chance. My Queensie is a bit hit and miss, 1 from 6 so far, a poor class 2 last time was preceded by a very nice class 3 performance, not one to rely on. Risky Art is improving, and with 2 from 5 so far comes into contention, a neck win 2 races ago shows ability. Fillionaire is an interesting one, winner of his only race so far, a solid 2 1/4 length win and with improvement certain he is of note here.
BKG’S Pick – (7) Pimpernel (WIN)
3:30 Aintree - 2 Mile 4 Furlongs Group 2
Now to Aintree for the first real top jumps race of the season. Master Minded is a fantastic horse, this 8 year old has won 14 from 22 chases so far as well as over this course in his last outing. Goes very well fresh and is top class when he wants to be. Albertas Run is a game old horse who took this 2 years ago, 8 wins from 24 is a solid strike rate and was 9 lengths away last time to Master Minded. Tataniano is a certain improver for Paul Nicholls and was a group 1 winner in April ’10, he hasn’t fired since but 3 from 6 leaves room for improvement.
BKG’S Pick – (1) Master Minded (WIN)
3:45 Newbury – 1 Mile 2 Furlongs Class2
Last race of the day is from Newbury. Oceanway was a game winner last time out, they grey winning well in a class 2 race taking his record to 3 wins in 11 outings. Naqshabban has won 2 from 5 so far and a solid class 2 run last time puts him in E/W contention here. Willing Foe has a good record of 3 wins from 4 so far and before an appaling appearance last time he had 3 in a row. Kirthill has 1 from 7, not the best strike rate but he is never far away and has a chance here.
BKG’S Pick – (8) Oceanway (Each Way)
